An Edmonton company that specializes in gluten-free foods has recalled one of its products.

Kinnikinninck Foods President and CEO Jerry Bigam said the product label fails to indicate the crusts contain eggs.

“The product is the same as it’s always been it’s just that we have a labeling issue,” he told CTV News.

“In a change over from an old box to a new box the labels that were put on to the product, for about two days production, missed eggs as an ingredient.”

Bigam said there were about 5,000 packages distributed across North America.

“There’s probably 1,000 packages in Canada and about three times that much in the U.S. at the moment,” he said adding they had already been in touch with their distributors.

“Our priority is to make sure that we provide consumers with the safest food possible,” he said.

The affected eight inch pie crusts come in packages of two with the best before dates: November 21,2013 December 11, 2013 and December 14, 2013.
