Edmonton police confirmed Friday evening that a suspicious death was being handled as a homicide, after an autopsy was completed.

Police said Michael Bradley Laronde, 33, died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.

Investigators were called Sunday, at about 10:30 a.m. to a home in the area of 91 Street and 83 Avenue, where a man had been found dead.

Laronde’s cousin told CTV News that the deceased had come home early Sunday morning; it’s believed he was involved in a fight while at a licensed establishment.

The cousin said Laronde fell asleep a few hours later, after refusing to go to the hospital, but he did not wake up.

The Edmonton Police Service Homicide unit is investigating the death.
