Edmonton police, firefighters and emergency crews were called to the southside Canadian Blood Services building Tuesday afternoon, after envelopes containing an unknown substance were found.

Officials told CTV News four envelopes containing an unknown substance were delivered to the mail room in the building, located on 114 Street and 62 Avenue.

Emergency crews were called to the building at about 3:30 p.m., after the envelopes were discovered.

Edmonton Fire Rescue said granulated sugar was found to be in one of the envelopes, and the other three were being tested by HazMat officials.

The entrance to the Blood Donor Clinic was taped off Tuesday afternoon, while the investigation was carried out.
