Police are investigating the death of a man, who was hit by a train on the Capital Line in north east Edmonton overnight.

Emergency crews responded to reports of a person being hit in the LRT crossing at 106 Avenue and 92 Street, just before midnight. They arrived to find a man dead at the scene.

“My understanding from witnesses at this point in time is that the individual was walking, had some earbuds in his ears and found himself in front of the train,” Insp. Regan James said.

Investigators said reports indicated crossing arms were lowered and the warning lights were flashing at the time of the crash.

The EPS Major Collisions Unit has taken over the investigation.

Police only identified the deceased as a 23-year-old male.
