Police are investigating a fatal rollover that happened in west Edmonton early Wednesday morning.

A witness came across a truck on its roof, around 2:00 a.m., in a ditch along 103 Avenue and Winterburn Road.

When police arrived they found a 31-year-old man pinned underneath the pickup. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the vehicle rolled several times before the man was ejected.

"It looks like there was just a high rate of speed, just from the marks in the ditch and the rollover aspects of the collision, but it’s pretty hard to determine at this time." said EPS Sgt. Gary Lamont.

Investigators said the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Officers believe road conditions were clear at the time of the crash.

The EPS Traffic Section is investigating – the road was closed for several hours Wednesday morning, but was re-opened by 9 a.m.

The victim has been identified by police, but his name has not yet been released.
