Edmonton police said Friday the EPS Major Collision Investigations Unit was investigating an early-morning collision involving a cyclist and a vehicle near Commonwealth Stadium.

Police were called to Stadium Road south of 112 Street at about 7:40 a.m. Friday – and arrived to find a 26-year-old male cyclist on the ground in a marked crosswalk, he had sustained multiple injuries.

EPS said reports indicated the cyclist was hit while riding his bike westbound through the crosswalk, the bicycle was struck by a vehicle headed south in the outside lane.

The cyclist was treated on the scene and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said neither speed nor impairment were factors in the crash, and no charges are pending against the driver.

Stadium Road was closed for several hours as police investigated Friday, but late Friday morning, the roadway had reopened.
