Edmonton police said a collision in the Callingwood area left a teenaged pedestrian in hospital with serious injuries Tuesday morning.

Police said officers were called to the collision, on 178 Street near 69 Avenue at about 7:35 a.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrived, they found a 16-year-old female lying in the middle of 178 Street near Blessed Oscar Romero High School.

Witnesses reported the girl had been crossing the road when she was hit by a car being driven by a 55-year-old woman.

Paramedics treated the teen on the scene, and then rushed her to hospital with serious injuries, the driver was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

The investigation is underway, and it’s not clear if the pedestrian was crossing the road in a marked crosswalk.

No charges are pending.

Drivers in the area are asked to find alternate routes until further notice, as 178 Street between 69 and 76 Avenues is closed to allow officers to investigate the collision.
