The Edmonton Police Service Homicide Section is investigating, after it was confirmed that the death of a man who was found seriously injured early Thursday morning was the city’s 21st homicide of 2016.

On Friday, police said a man who was found seriously injured in the area of 106 Avenue, west of 96 Street just before 1 a.m. on Thursday had been identified as Robert Paul Loyer, 46.

Loyer was found bleeding – and EPS officers tried to do CPR, but he was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Medical Examiner has confirmed Loyer died as a result of blunt force trauma.

Loyer’s death is now Edmonton’s 21st homicide of 2016.
