Edmonton Police have laid charges after a fatal stabbing incident downtown over the August long weekend.

Officials said they were called out for an injured man in an empty lot near 105 Avenue and 98 Street around 11 p.m. Friday, August 1.

The victim, Emery Robert Cardinal, 42, was taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Jeremy Edward Bemis, 36, has been charged with second degree murder and possession of a weapon.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 5.

The investigation is ongoing.

This is the city’s 16th homicide of the year.
