Police have charged a man in connection with a death in west Edmonton. The incident has now been confirmed as a the city's eighth homicide of 2014.

Joshua Allen Letendre, 28, is facing second degree murder charges. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, April 23.

Police responded to the area of 160 Street and Stony Plain Road at about 11:30 p.m. after getting reports of a man being assaulted in a parking lot.

One witness told CTV News he attempted to help the victim, as did paramedics, but he succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

An autopsy was performed on the victim on Tuesday, and police confirm that he died of blood loss from a stab wound. His name has not been notified pending notification of next of kin.

The incident and the heavy police presence that followed had some residents on edge, over fears violence in the area is escalating.

“I’ve been confronted by a lot of people around this neighbourhood in the past,” Resident Dalton Dickau said. “[I have been] seeing it escalating, it’s bound to happen but I think police should have stepped up a little earlier.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 780-423-4567.
