RCMP re-opened Highway 63 slowly Friday night.

''We've given the order from Alberta transportation that we can open the highway,” Sheriff Collin Dipasquale said.

The road, which sees thousands of vehicles each day, was closed for about 28 hours.

Many drivers say the closure caused serious headaches.

“It costs me money sitting here,” Randy Rechner told CTV News.

Rechner was the first one allowed back on the highway when it re-opened.

“I can’t really charge my customer for sitting here doing nothing,” he added.

Police were slow to allow traffic through – guiding 50 cars through each 15 minutes until the congestion cleared.

"We're asking everybody to be diligent,” Dipasquale said.

“Everybody is going to have to participate to keep it safe.”

RCMP say visibility remains poor and snow and ice are still a danger.

They are asking motorists to avoid travelling until weather conditions improve.
