Police are searching for two inmates who escaped a minimum security facility in Hobbema.

Staff at the Pe Sakastew Centre told authorities that Simon Cardinal, 20, and Cody McIntosh, 29 were missing during a count on Friday night.

A spokesperson for Correctional Service Canada said warrants were immediately issued but stressed the men were not believed to pose any danger.

“Anybody who is placed there would meet the criteria for minimum security inmate. That is they would be deemed a low risk to public safety,” Jeff Campbell told CTV News.

Campbell said an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstance of the incident.

Cardinal has been described as having brown eyes and black hair, 6’1 tall and about 221 pounds.

Officials said he also has a tattoo on his left hand.

MacIntosh has been described as having brown eyes and black hair, 5’11 tall and 221 pounds.

He also has tattoos on his left arm, upper back and right forearm.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact their local police department.
