Edmonton police are asking for the public’s help to identify an individual who is believed to have stolen Christmas decorations from homes in the Summerside neighbourhood.

Police said on Monday, November 28, officers were called to a home on Summerside Drive at about 2:20 p.m., after receiving a report of stolen holiday decorations. Three items were reported stolen:  outdoor LED projector lights, an extension cord and a timer.

Surveillance video recorded the entire incident, showing a vehicle pulling into the driveway of the home. The suspect then got out of the vehicle and returns moments later, with decorations in hand and while smoking a cigarette. The suspect drove away.

The suspect is described as:

  • Caucasian male
  • 172.5 cm (5’8”) tall
  • Short brown hair

He was wearing a black baseball hat, jeans and a black sweater at the time. The vehicle is described as a silver 2-door Honda Civic with a silver cross hanging from the rear view mirror.

Police said another similar incident was reported via the EPS Online Crime Reporting tool. In that case, between Friday, December 2, and Saturday, December 3, a suspect allegedly walked up to a home in Summerside, unplugged a Christmas tree located by the front door and took it away. Investigators said it’s possible a nearby vehicle was used to take the tree away.

The stolen tree is described as a white, pre-lit birch tree decorated with silver and blue ornaments.
