Two St. Albert schools went into a “hold and secure” procedure after RCMP received a call about a possible gunman on school grounds.

St. Albert RCMP set up a safety perimeter and investigated St. Albert Catholic High and Vincent J. Maloney schools shortly after 11 a.m.

Police say a “youthful-sounding” caller stated a man wearing a black trench coat was carrying a firearm near the buildings.

RCMP determined the call was a prank and both schools were advised to lift the “hold and secure” procedure.

St. Albert RCMP and the Greater St. Albert Catholic School Division are investigating the false allegation.
