Police in central Alberta are trying to track down suspects believed to have been involved in a home invasion where a man in his 40s was shot.

RCMP said on Tuesday, just after 12:30 p.m., officers were called to a home, where a 47-year-old man had been shot.

It’s believed three male suspects in a dark blue Chevrolet pickup truck had parked behind the home, and entered the garage of the home. A 35-year-old woman was pushed to the ground inside.

The suspects then went into the home and confronted the man inside, and he was shot.

Witnesses told police they saw the suspect pickup fleeing the scene, along with a gold-coloured Chrysler Intrepid, which was stolen from the home. The suspects had their faces partially covered with black bandanas.

The injured man was rushed to hospital, at last word he was in stable condition.

Jenyse Perry heard the shot when it rang out Tuesday.

“I didn’t physically see him be shot, when I heard it I literally thought it was a screen door slamming because your brain doesn’t think gun shot,” Perry said.

Perry said she didn’t believe that someone had actually been shot until she saw him.

“When I opened my vehicle door the man had come out and said he had been shot and to phone 911,” Perry said.

“This sort of violence rocks the community,” RCMP Staff Sgt. Ken Morrison said.

Robin Harnum lives next to the home where the home invasion happened.

“It’s pretty scary,” Harnum said. “Our neighbourhood is super quiet, it’s a really good neighbourhood and to find out that this was so close to our home, I’m very glad that we weren’t here cause we’ve got three little kids.”

Harnum said the neighbour who live in the home where the incident took place have largely kept to themselves.

“They’ve been super quiet, we actually said it’s kind of nice because they’ve kind of kept to themselves,” she said.

RCMP said it’s believed there was a female working with the three male suspects.

Anyone with details that could help RCMP identify the suspects is asked to call Blackfalds RCMP at 403-885-3300.
