The provincial government announced plans Tuesday to invest millions to help expand public transit between Leduc, Nisku, Leduc County and Edmonton.
On Tuesday, the province said $3.4 million in funding to expand the “C-Line” inter-municipal bus service currently running between those communities.
The “C-Line” runs from Century Park in Edmonton, to bus stops in Nisku and Leduc, before looping back to Century Park – with a total of five trips running during morning and afternoon peak times Monday to Friday.
Leduc is planning to use the funding to buy four low-floor buses and five shuttle buses, to develop park and ride facilities, build a transit garage, and construct bus shelters and stops.
The province said the funds will also allow a feeder bus route to be created by using the shuttle buses to connect residents with the “C-Line”, and to create additional lines between Leduc, Nisku and the Edmonton International Airport.
Funding for the project is coming out of the province’s GreenTRIP program – a $2 billion program focused on funding new and expanded public transit services in Alberta.
Aside from funding for the “C-Line”, the program is also approved to fund projects in 15 municipalities, which totals about $1 billion.
