Environment Canada has issued rainfall warnings for parts of northern Alberta, northeast of Edmonton, for Monday, July 24.

Starting late Monday morning, Environment Canada issued the rainfall warnings for parts of the Westlock-Barrhead-Athabasca region and the Bonnyville-St. Paul-Cold Lake-Lac La Biche region.

The warning said a low-pressure system in central Saskatchewan is expected to keep spreading showers and thunderstorms in those areas Monday – it’s expected between 50 and 90 mm of rain will fall by Monday evening.

Officials said heavy rains can cause flash flooding and water pooling on roadways, and localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Conditions are expected to improve Monday night, as the weather system moves into Manitoba.
