Stony Plain RCMP have made an arrest following an alleged assault on a young girl.

Officials said the 6-year-old was airlifted to hospital from the Paul First Nation by STARS Air Ambulance around 4:45 p.m. Saturday.

A spokesperson with STARS said the patient had “injuries related to blunt trauma.”

“We have been told by the hospital that she is in critical but stable condition at this time,” Const. Kathleen Fossen told CTV News.

Const. Fossen said that they expected charges to be laid but would not be releasing many details.

“In order to protect the identity of the young child we are not releasing any names at this time.”

The investigation is ongoing.
