Police in Strathcona County are investigating a break and enter at a rural home earlier this month, and are asking for the public’s help.

RCMP said on Saturday, July 8 at about 9:48 p.m., officers were called to a reported break and enter at a home near Range Road 225 and Township Road 534.

Police said the call came in after an individual heard an alarm go off, and then saw a male suspect leaving it what appeared to be a dark grey Chevrolet Equinox. That home belonged to the recently deceased mother of the person who called it in.

According to police, the male suspect had gone into the unlocked garage door, and then kicked in the door leading to the home – it’s alleged he took several pieces of jewelry and a wooden box that contained the ashes of the complainant’s deceased mother.

The box is described as a cherry wood box (about 12 by 6 inches) with the name Mary Annie Myers and Riverview Funeral Home on a white sticker on the bottom.

The box was inside a green velvet bag with a drawstring that also contained an envelope with a cremation certificate and a burial permit.

The male suspect has been described as being in his early 20s, with black hair, in a brush cut and round face.

Anyone with details on this case is asked to call Strathcona County RCMP at 780-467-7741 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
