Police in communities surrounding the city are warning motorists to drive with caution on area highways, as conditions were deteriorating Wednesday afternoon.

Leduc RCMP said highways south of Edmonton were causing a number of problems.

Officers were called to a number of collisions in the area in a short period of time; many of them involved vehicles sliding off the road.

In each of those cases, no injuries were reported.

RCMP north of the city also warned of highway travel in the area – namely on Highway 28 and Highway 63.

Police said in all cases, ice and blowing snow was making roadways difficult to drive on.

Travel on those highways was not recommended, and motorists were warned to drive according to road conditions.
