Fort Saskatchewan RCMP have laid a number of forgery and fraud-related charges against a former top official with the Town of Lamont.

Police said Wednesday that Thomas Miller, former Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Lamont had been arrested and charged as a result of an ongoing investigation.

Fort Saskatchewan RCMP said Miller was arrested outside of a business in that town on Thursday.

Miller is facing charges of forgery, uttering a forged document, counseling to forge a document and counseling to commit fraud.

RCMP said the investigation began after an incident was reported in 2008, the investigation was later re-opened after more evidence was found – which lead to the arrest and charges.

An RCMP spokesperson said no other information could be released on the case, as the investigation is ongoing and the matter is before the courts.

A Judicial Interim Release hearing has already been held, and Miller’s next court appearance has been scheduled for June 6 in Fort Saskatchewan.
