Police in Saskatchewan said Tuesday that charges had been laid in connection to a sexual assault dating back more than three decades; one of the accused was a serving RCMP member in Alberta.

Saskatchewan RCMP said Ronald Patrick Makar was arrested Tuesday at the Wood Buffalo RCMP detachment in Alberta, where he works. Makar faces one charge of having sexual intercourse with a female without her consent, and one count of having sexual intercourse with a female under the age of 14.

A woman, identified as Constance Haduik, is facing a charge of indecent assault of a female. She was arrested at her workplace in Kyle, Saskatchewan on April 10.

The arrests came after RCMP in Regina received reports from a woman that she had been targetted in sexual assaults in April, 2013.

RCMP said in December, 2013, the woman provided a detailed statement that said she was the victim of sexual assaults during the summer of 1982 when she was 12-years-old.

Alberta RCMP said Makar had been suspended with pay pending further consideration – prior to his arrest, he had served 34 years with the RCMP, mainly in Saskatchewan, and was transferred to Alberta in 2012 and at the rank of Inspector.

Since coming to Alberta, Makar had worked as the Operations Officer at the Wood Buffalo detachment.

The accused will appear in court July 4 in Carlyle, Saskatchewan.
