Morinville RCMP said a case of a sudden death in the area had become a homicide investigation.

RCMP said on Tuesday morning at about 8:30 a.m., officers were called to a rural area near the intersection of Township Road 540 and Rural Route 263, after the body of an adult male was reportedly found.

Officers arrived on the scene, and cordoned off the area to investigate, and to allow crews to remove the body.

On Wednesday, police said an autopsy was conducted by the Chief Medical Examiner – who found the death was a case of homicide.

The identity of the deceased has not been determined.

Investigators said the RCMP Major Crimes Unit in Edmonton had taken over the investigation, with help from RCMP detachments in Morinville and St. Albert. Members from the Edmonton Police Service are also helping.
