RCMP in Sylvan Lake have been searching for a vandal after a helicopter was damaged at a rural location in central Alberta.

Officials said the incident happened between October 17 at 4:30 and October 18 at 8 a.m. northwest of Eckville.

Extensive damage was done to the helicopter, which was being used in the construction of the new transmission lines west of the town.

Damage to the interior and exterior of the chopper has forced it to be grounded for inspection and repairs.

Police said the damages could cost anywhere from $1,000 up to $100,000.

They also said the suspects stole several items including parts of the helicopter critical to its flight status.
