RCMP south of Edmonton are asking for the public’s help to identify a number of suspects wanted in connection to a shocking home invasion in New Sarepta early Tuesday morning.

Police said a male arrived, wearing handcuffs, at the Leduc RCMP detachment Tuesday, and after officers interviewed him, the investigation was underway.

According to reports, at about 2 a.m. Tuesday, a home was broke into by five suspects, four males and a female. At first, the suspects knocked on the door and announced themselves as police, before kicking in the door and putting handcuffs on the homeowner.

Police said the suspects were reportedly armed with firearms, and demanded the victim open his safe.

The suspects took five firearms – three rifles and two shotguns that were stored in the safe – the suspects loaded the stolen items into the victim’s vehicle before stealing that as well. All of the suspects fled.

The victim managed to get himself out of one of the handcuffs, before asking a neighbour to help him get to the Leduc RCMP detachment – he wasn’t hurt, and was the only person inside the home at the time of the home invasion.

Initial investigation results indicated the home was targeted, and the home invasion was not random.
