A man shot by RCMP officers near Grande Cache has been identified as Curtis Hallock, a popular character in the Mantracker series.

Family of 31-year-old Hallock told CTV News he was shot in the arm and leg and was awaiting surgery in a Grande Prairie hospital.

His sister, Priscilla Bowen, explained that Hallock had been shot at multiple times by officers and was hit twice with a couple of bullets grazing him.

“He was unarmed in the altercation. I want that to be clear,” she explained.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been called in to investigate.

Director Clif Purvis confirmed that two officers were involved as well as a foot chase after the shooting.

“After the male was shot he fled on foot and was subsequently located at a residence approximately one kilometer away from where the incident occurred,” Purvis explained, adding the suspect was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The surgery Hallock was expecting to undergo on Saturday was to remove a bullet from his shoulder.

Those who knew him said they were surprised by the incident, describing him as calm and quiet.

“His demeanor on Mantracker is very accurate for him. He is very calm and matter-of-fact and a very easy going and happy guy,” Bowen said.

The show’s executive producer said Hallock was an intelligent, strong and silent type of man.

“Kind of like a new-age, sensitive guy,” Ihor Macijiwsky explained.

“He was just the perfect guy to have on the team. I know my crew adored him.”

Hallock was reportedly shot when RCMP officers tried to stop his vehicle near Grande Cache Thursday night.

Purvis said that the suspect was facing charges.

Family told CTV that no charges had been laid but that Hallock was under police guard.

According to the Mantracker website, Hallock has lived off the land around his hometown of Grande Cache all his life.
