After RCMP found human remains in a field near Innisfail, family of a Fort Saskatchewan woman missing for two months has been contacted.

RCMP said the remains were found Sunday about 10 kilometres west of Innisfail – and the find prompted police to contact Dana Turner's family.

It wasn't immediately clear why the family was called in.

"It's probably what was found at the scene itself," RCMP spokesperson Tim Taniguchi said. "I'm not privy to that information,

"All I can tell you is confirm that yes, RCMP did have contact with Dana Turner's family."

The remains have yet to be identified by DNA analysis or dental records.

Dana Turner was last seen in surveillance footage at a gas station two months ago.

Three weeks ago, her rental car was found – however police have not released where the car was found.

The mother of the 31-year-old woman told CTV News her family met with RCMP Tuesday, and were told the remains were most likely Dana's, and investigators said it appears she was the victim of foul play.

RCMP would not confirm anything, but said it could take several days to positively identify the remains.
