The New Democratic Party candidate in Edmonton will continue working as an Edmonton Catholic School Board trustee throughout her campaign, regardless of pressure put on by another party for her to take a leave.

NDP candidate for Edmonton-Manning Cindy Olsen is also an Edmonton Catholic School Board trustee, and has chosen to keep that position while campaigning.

The Liberal Party attempted to push Olsen to leave her post, and refund the money she's been paid during the weeks leading up to the April 23 election.

However, Olsen spoke to CTV News, and said she's not going anywhere, and she plans on donating the money she's been paid.

"My district got a legal opinion, saying there was no reason that I need to take a leave of absence," Olsen said.

"I would make a charitable donation to the school district for the pay that I would have received, so it doesn't look like I'm double dipping."

Olsen said her $3,000 donation will go towards the district's school lunch program.
