Police in central Alberta and officials with the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) said a search was underway to find an inmate who escaped from the minimum security unit at Bowden Institution.

According to CSC, Kenton Matthew Boyle, 29, was not accounted for during the 11:45 a.m. count on Sunday, October 4.

Officials said they immediately contacted Innisfail RCMP, who issued a warrant for his arrest.

CSC officials said Boyle is described as:

  • About 170 cm (5’7”) tall
  • Weighs approximately 80 kg (177 lbs)
  • Fair complexion
  • Hazel eyes and brown hair
  • Has tattoos on his chest and right arm

Officials said he is serving a sentence of four years and six months for a number of offences including armed robbery, disguise with intent and possession of property obtained by a crime.

The CSC and RCMP are investigating the circumstances surrounding his escape and are working to find Boyle as quickly as possible.
