EPS homicide detectives have arrested and charged an Edmonton man with second-degree murder in connection with the April 6 death of Trevor Keith Deleeuw, 25.

According to police, David Klassen,26, was arrested on Tuesday, September 1, in Yellowknife during an RCMP residential drug raid – a day after EPS investigators issued an Alberta/Northwest Territories-wide arrest warrant.

Klassen, who was transported to Edmonton on Thursday evening, was charged with second-degree  murder, unlawful use of a firearm, assault with a weapon and disguise with intent.

The investigation started after shots were fired in a parking lot in the area of 215 Street and 115 Avenue in Edmonton at about 9 p.m. on April 6.

Later, RCMP were called to a second crime scene in St. Albert where the deceased was found – an autopsy later revealed Deleeuw died as a result of gunshot wounds.

“Trevor Deleeuw was shot and killed in a vehicle at the Winterburn Liquor Store…his body was then driven out and dumped in a residential area in St. Albert where the RCMP found the victim,” said EPS homicide Staff Sgt. Bill Clark.

Klassen will appear in Edmonton court on September 8.

Deleeuw’s death was the city’s sixth homicide of 2015.
