Emergency crews and police were busy on Yellowhead Trail Tuesday afternoon, after incidents in both directions caused major tie-ups.

Police told CTV News two semi-trucks collided in the eastbound lanes at 68 Street at about 4 p.m.

A passenger in one of the semis was taken to hospital with minor injuries – police said both of those trucks were carrying wood products.

Meanwhile, about 15 minutes later, another semi caught on fire in the westbound lanes of the roadway, at 62 Street.

That trailer was carrying recyclable materials – Edmonton Fire Rescue said the fire was out a short time later, and about 16 firefighters helped to put out the blaze.

No one was injured in the fire.

Edmonton police advised drivers to avoid the roadway Tuesday afternoon, due to backups related to those incidents.
