A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for the Edmonton area Saturday night.
Environment Canada says as of 6:20 p.m. Saturday, a thunderstorm warning is in effect for:
- City of Edmonton, St. Albert, Sherwood Park
- Sturgeon County near Morinville, Volmer and Big Lake
- Fort Saskatchewan and northern Strathcona County
- County of Thorhild near Newbrook and Long Lake Provincial Park
Environment Canada is warning of an arcing line of thunderstorms extending from just south east of Thorhild to 5 kilometres south of Barrhead to 15 kilometres southwest of Mayerthorpe. The line is moving eastward at 60 km/h.
The main threat with this line is damaging wind gusts with speeds in excess of 100 km/h already reported. These winds can affect areas well in advance of the line. Large hail and heavy downpours are also possible.
