A man is in the hospital with a serious injury after he was shot in northeast Edmonton Friday evening, police said.

EPS responded to a report of a shooting just before 7 p.m in the area of 129 Avenue and 50 Street.

Upon arrival, police found a male in his mid-twenties with a gunshot wound in the upper body area.

EMS transported the man to the hospital.

"I don't have an update on his condition at this time,” Sergeant Mike Garth said. “We know there is no risk to the public safety. We’re still in the process of investigating and identifying suspects."

EPS also said they are investigating the model of a suspect vehicle seen leaving the scene after the shooting.
