RCMP in Hinton and Jasper, with help from the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) said a number of alleged drug dealers had been arrested as part of an extensive investigation into drug trafficking in those communities.

RCMP said the two week project targeting street level drug traffickers in Hinton and Jasper was carried out with help from ALERT in Edmonton and Grande Prairie.

Investigators followed up on concerns over drug trafficking.

As a result, six people were arrested, and investigators seized methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, hydromorphone, psilocybin and marijuana.

Four Hinton residents: Jason Currie, 41, Annie Meunier, 47, Steven Boudreau, 31, and Bryan Brown, 20, are facing a number of charges ranging from possession for the purpose of trafficking, to weapons-related offences.

Two residents of Jasper: Theodore Vena, 28, and Donald Roop, 36, are each facing one count each of trafficking cocaine, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.

The Hinton residents are scheduled to appear in court on December 17, while Vena and Roop are scheduled to appear in court on January 22 and 8, respectively.
