Nasty weather is taking the blame for an ugly crash northeast of Edmonton Monday night.

Emergency services from St. Paul responded to a head-on collision at 10:15 pm involving a southbound semi tractor trailer and northbound Toyota Corolla.

RCMP say the 89 year old female driver of the car become disoriented in a sudden dense snowfall. She allegedly drove into the on-coming lane and came to a full stop in a curved portion of Highway 36, near Twp 582.

That's when the southbound semi entered the curve and was unable to avoid a collision.

The elderly woman was extricated from the vehicle and taken to an area hospital with non life threatening injuries. The driver of the semi tractor trailer was not seriously hurt.

Police say alcohol and speed are not considered to be factors as they continue to investigate the collision.
