Edmonton Police said Friday night that an autopsy was pending in connection to the death of a toddler, who was found in northeast Edmonton earlier in the day.

At about 2:30 p.m. Friday, police were called to the area of 155 Avenue and Castle Downs Road, after a passerby found the body of the deceased male toddler near a church.

“This message is very sad and unfortunate, as the result of a discovery of a young toddler who was dead,” Staff Sgt. Duane Hunter said late Friday night.

“We want to show you the clothing we located at the scene with the child.”

An autopsy is pending, and police released photos of clothing and shoes from the scene in an effort to identify the deceased.

“Our focus right now in the investigation is primarily to identify the young toddler,” Hunter said.

Investigators said the toddler’s age has been estimated to be 20 months-old.

“Someone out there is missing this little boy,” Hunter said.

The Homicide Unit is investigating.

Anyone with information on the potential identity if the child is asked to call the Edmonton Police Service non-emergency line at 780-423-4567 or #377 on a mobile phone.
