Police in St. Albert have laid a number of charges against the owner of a home that was burned in an early morning fire last Saturday.

On Friday, RCMP said Jabbar Jahanroshan had been charged with arson in connection to the Dec. 29 fire.

Crews were called to the home located at 19 Oak Point at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday – investigators said firefighters arrived to find the home “fully charged with fire and smoke.”

However, firefighters managed to gain the upper hand on the fire quickly, and no serious injuries were reported.

Police said at the time that the family who lived in the home was on vacation, except for one man who was believed to be the owner of the property – investigators said he was outside the home when emergency crews arrived.

RCMP immediately began investigating the blaze, and called it suspicious.

Jahanroshan was arrested, and then charged on Jan. 2, police said he was released and has been scheduled to appear in a St. Albert courtroom on Feb. 4.
