RCMP in St. Albert said Tuesday that criminal charges had been laid against a local woman after it was alleged she defrauded her employer.
St. Albert RCMP said Laura McChesney, 46, was facing charges of fraud over $5,000, theft over $5,000 and forgery over $5,000.
Police said the investigation was launched after a business in St. Albert found improper transactions had been recorded in their finances over a number of years.
It’s alleged the company was the victim of cheque thefts, cheque forgeries and frauds that were discovered in a financial audit.
Investigators said it’s alleged she defrauded her employer of more than one million dollars.
McChesney has been released, and is set to appear in a St. Albert courtroom September 21.
