An irreplaceable locket containing the ashes of a boy has been found and returned to the family.

On Tuesday, Edmonton police sought help from the public in located a locket stolen from a southeast Edmonton home. Inside the locket, was the remains of the homeowner's late son who passed away at birth in 2011.

On May 22, police responded to a break-and-enter call where it was discovered that a jewelry box, containing pieces including the heart-shaped locket, was the only missing item.

An individual, who wishes to remain anonymous, contacted police Tuesday evening about the item - it was returned to the family at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The information led police to identify the locket and return it to the family.
