Like many of Lady Gaga's ‘Little Monsters’  in the Edmonton-area, Inez Whitfield spent much of Monday in anticipation, preparing to see the performer in concert at Rexall Place.

Whitfield’s daughter, Kendra, showed off the glittery outfit her 86-year-old mother was planning to wear to the concert that evening.

“My personal motto is ‘no glitter, no glory’,” Kendra said.

“Well, I live for glitter,” Inez quips.

It’s not just an affinity for over-the-top outfits that Inez has in common with the 28-year-old artist.

“I think we both love life, we both love the bright side of life,” Inez said.

“She’s gutsy, she’s daring, she’s beautiful, she has a message in her songs.”

Her adoration for Gaga started a few years ago, when she saw her on Oprah – with one particular song turning her from a fan, to a super fan: ‘Born This Way’.

“’We are all superstars in this world’, I don’t know it just did something for me,” Inez said.

“I have a funny ear, there are few people that will resonate with me, like the Beatles – and Lady Gaga did.”

Mother and daughter planned to take in the concert together, just like they did the last time Lady Gaga made a stop in Edmonton on her Monsters Ball Tour – however this time around, the trip to Rexall Place will carry a little more risk.

Inez is recovering from surgery earlier this month, for a perforated appendix.

“It is pretty gutsy, but we’ve got a wheelchair and we’ll make it work,” Kendra said.

For Kendra’s mother, life is simply too short not to go. “I like her philosophy on life. And I can relate to her in that respect,” Inez said.

“Just live, live every day.”
