Police east of Edmonton said Wednesday that one individual had been charged after an investigation was launched over counterfeit money in Strathcona County.
Strathcona County RCMP said they had received a number of complaints from local businesses, reporting suspicious transactions that involved counterfeit Canadian $20 bills.
On November 4, 2014, a search warrant was executed at a home in Sherwood Park, where officers seized a number of older-style Canadian $20 bills, believed to be counterfeit, as well as counterfeiting equipment.
A woman, identified as Shawna Lee Haineault, 44, of Sherwood Park was arrested at the home without incident.
Officials said three different serial numbers were found on the suspected counterfeit bills:
- ARZ1682364
- BID4651215
- ARB9708430
RCMP are asking people to check the serial numbers on any older-style (not polymer) Canadian $20 bills they have, and if they have cash matching those serial numbers they are asked to call Strathcona County RCMP at 780-467-7741.
Haineault is now facing two counts of possession of counterfeit currency – she is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday December 10.
