Edmonton police have laid charges against an 18-year-old male, for his alleged role in a late night stabbing that left one man seriously injured.

Police were called to the scene of an alleged altercation in the area of Kingsway Avenue and Airport Road just after 11 p.m. Thursday.

It’s believed two groups were passing each other, when two of the men reportedly exchanged words – when it’s believed a fight broke out and a 21-year-old man was stabbed.

The man was treated on the scene, and rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

The suspect fled the scene before police arrived.

Investigators interviewed witnesses on scene, and searched the area with the help of the EPS Canine Unit.

The police dog followed a trail to a nearby apartment, where officers canvassed the building door-to-door, eventually finding the suspect’s suite, where the weapon used in the incident was recovered.

The suspect turned himself in to Downtown Division police just before 4 a.m. Friday, and was arrested.

Police have charged Zakary Kyle Kinsella, 18, with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.
