Edmonton police said Monday that the man wanted on Canada-wide warrants in connection to the stabbing death of a man in mid-December, had turned himself in to police in B.C. over the weekend.

Police said Justin Sandquist, 23, surrendered to police in Vancouver Sunday, December 29.

The development came after Edmonton Police Service Homicide Section detectives issued a number of warrants for his arrest – on charges ranging from first-degree murder for the alleged stabbing death of Aaron Cote, 25, on December 18.

Cote was stabbed in a motel parking lot, located in the area of Gateway Boulevard and 45 Avenue.

EPS Homicide detectives flew to Vancouver Sunday night, where Sandquist will be interviewed.

Police said Sandquist would be transported back to Edmonton to face charges of first degree murder, possession of an offensive weapon and criminal hit and run.
