A suspicious death in northwest Edmonton Saturday night has been deemed a homicide.

An autopsy performed Monday confirmed 58-year-old Phillip Mooney was killed. The cause of death is not being released until toxicology results are back.

Officers were called to a home at 188 Street and 122 Avenue Saturday just after 11 p.m. for a report of two men fighting. At least one of the men was reported to be intoxicated.

Mooney was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The second man was taken into custody. No charges have been laid but police said they were not looking for any other suspects.

At the time, officers said no weapons were involved.

Neighbours told CTV News the two men moved into the house a couple of years ago and that they were good friends.

This is the 23rd homicide in Edmonton in 2014. There had been 24 at the same time in 2013.
