Months after Premier Jim Prentice pledged to sell the provincial government’s much-maligned fleet of aircraft, officials announced three of the four airplanes had been sold.

The provincial government announced Thursday that Fargo Jet Center Inc., out of Fargo, North Dakota, had successfully bid on three of the airplanes: two 2006 Beechcraft King Air B200, and a 1997 Beechcraft King Air 350.

Officials said the company bid nearly $6.1 million for three King Air Aircraft, entering a bid that was about 11 percent, or $600,000, higher than the minimum bid price.

Service Alberta reviewed sealed tenders that were opened on February 24.

One airplane remains, a 1985 DeHavilland Dash 8-103 – the province said it didn’t receive a bid that complied with criteria for a tender, officials are looking at options including re-tendering the plane and related inventory of spare parts and tools.
