Friday morning was a busy one for Garth Brooks fans in the capital region, as tickets for his February, 2017 shows went on sale, and were snapped up within minutes.

At 10 a.m. Friday, tickets went on sale for Brooks’ February 18, 2017 show at Rogers Place – before fans could pay for tickets, a second show was added for the Friday, February 17.

Then, between 10 and 10:30 a.m., three more shows were added: an evening show on Sunday, February 19, and two matinees for February 18 and 19.

Before 11 a.m., officials said ticket sales for the five concerts had broken Brooks’ previous sales record, set in August, 1996 at Northlands Coliseum.

Twenty years ago, 50,871 tickets were sold – on Friday, officials said ticket sales had surpassed 51,000, and tickets were still selling at the time.

The high demand for tickets prompted another announcement, this time, the Brooks himself tweeted that work was being done to add more shows in Edmonton.

Later on, Brooks’ team confirmed a ‘special announcement’ would be made on Monday December 12.

“Garth promised that anyone who wanted a ticket would get one and he will hold true to that promise,” the statement said.
