The man accused of killing three security guards at HUB Mall in June, will have his case go directly to trial.

Alberta Justice tells CTV News the Crown is proceeding with direct indictment - meaning there will be no preliminary hearing in the Travis Baumgartner case.

Baumgartner is facing three first-degree murder charges and one attempted murder charge after a robbery and shooting at HUB Mall on the University of Alberta campus in June.

Police say Baumgartner was one of five armed G4S guards who were loading a bank machine at the university's HUB Mall and residence just after midnight on June 15.

Eddie Rejano, 39, Michelle Shegelski, 26, and Brian Ilesic, 35, died in the incident.

Matthew Schuman, a fourth guard, was wounded.

Baumgartner was arrested a day after the shooting at the Canada-U.S. border.

Unsealed search warrants in the case allege that up to $1.9 million went missing after the robbery.

The June 15 documents indicate that G4S -- the company that employed the guards -- claims between $600,000 to $1.9 million dollars remain missing.

Baumgartner’s next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 7 in Court of Queen's Bench.
