Two suspects are in custody following an armed home invasion in the Vegreville area Sunday morning.

Sherwood Park RCMP responded to a call about a home invasion in Vegreville at 4:43 a.m., after suspects broke into a residence with weapons. Two suspects fled the scene, police said.

RCMP officers located the suspect vehicle in Strathcona County at approximately 5:15 a.m. and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

The suspects refused to stop, and police disable their vehicle with a tire deflation device. The suspect vehicle then rammed two police cars, and an RCMP officer discharged his firearm, police said.

The two suspects were taken into custody. Initially, RCMP said they were looking for a third suspect, but then said there were only two suspects involved.

No one was injured.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was notified.
