Northern Alberta RCMP confirmed Wednesday that two people died in a crash north of Fort McMurray Wednesday.

Wood Buffalo RCMP said they received reports that an aircraft had gone down about 128 kilometres north of Fort McMurray just after 12:15 p.m. Wednesday.

RCMP have since sent officers to the scene by air, police said the Canadian Armed Forces have also sent two aircraft to the scene to help.

Police said the aircraft, which RCMP said was a helicopter from the Fort McMurray area, had three people including the pilot on board.

According to RCMP, the male pilot and a female passenger succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash; a third man was taken to hospital and is reportedly in stable condition.
