Two members of the Edmonton Police Service are facing charges in connection to an investigation by ASIRT into the trafficking of anabolic steroids. The allegations date back eight years.

Sgt. Greg Lewis, a 10-year member of the EPS, has been charged with three counts of trafficking a controlled substance. It is alleged that he was involved in trafficking Stanozolol between 2007 and 2013, it is also alleged that he was involved in trafficking Testosterone, and Methyl-1-Testosterone between 2008 and 2009.

Cst. Darren French, a 25-year member of the EPS, has been charged with one count of trafficking a controlled substance. It is alleged that he was involved in trafficking Stanozolol between 2007 and 2008.

The investigation has been ongoing since April 2013.

In a news conference Friday afternoon, Chief Rod Knecht stated that the investigation had also revealed that a number of EPS officers had bought or used steroids in connection with the case.

“As a result of the ASIRT investigation, six additional police officers were transferred out of their current duties by myself earlier today,” the Chief told the media, “Edmontonians expect their police officers to be honest and ethical and to answer to a higher standard.”

The two officers who have been charged are currently suspended without pay while the EPS conducts an internal investigation.
